Learned it from his dad
Dave Shaffer grew up in the trade. His father sided houses, and Dave learned the work the way most good tradespeople do: on the job, one wall at a time. That was about forty years ago. He has been putting siding on Oregon homes ever since.
In Gresham he founded Six-Point Siding, Inc., licensed with the Oregon Construction Contractors Board since 2002 (CCB #153635). The elk on the logo is a six-point bull, and the name stuck.
Small on purpose
Six-Point is a family business. Dave gives the estimates, Dave is on the job, and Dave is the one you call if something isn't right. There is no sales team between you and the person doing the work.
Staying small means Dave can be picky about the parts of a siding job nobody sees: rotted sheathing gets replaced, not covered; the weather barrier is lapped so water runs out; and every window, door and roofline gets flashing that sends water away from the wall.
What Dave installs
Dave works in James Hardie fiber cement, including its cedar-look lines, and real cedar. He also does siding and dry rot repair, trim, soffit and fascia, windows and sliding glass doors, and decks. He doesn't install vinyl siding.
Licensed, bonded and insured
Oregon law requires contractors to be licensed with the CCB, and you should always check. You can look up license #153635 on the Oregon CCB website, or read how to check any contractor's license.
