Siding contractor for Damascus homes

Damascus is in Clackamas County, southeast of Gresham and east of Happy Valley. Six-Point Siding, Inc. is based in Gresham. Dave Shaffer is a second-generation sider with about 40 years of hands-on experience, licensed in Oregon since 2002 (CCB #153635), and personally on every job.

A place with a complicated history

Damascus incorporated as a city in 2004. Residents voted in 2016 to disincorporate, and Happy Valley took in sizable parts of the former city. The legal aftermath took years to settle. For a homeowner, the practical point is that “Damascus” is now mostly a place name, and who covers your address may depend on exactly where you live.

Housing in Damascus

The area is a mix:

  • Rural acreage and older homes on larger parcels, including farmhouses and mid-century ranches.
  • Newer subdivisions built as the area developed in recent decades.
  • Homes among trees, where shade and moss are part of the picture.

We do not guess from the zip code. Dave looks at your wall.

Siding problems we see on newer homes

On older homes, rot is usually age. On newer subdivision homes, it is more often a detail that was missed at construction:

  • Missing or failed flashing at windows, doors, decks and roof-to-wall joints.
  • Missing kick-out flashing where a roof edge meets a sidewall, which lets runoff soak the wall below.
  • Siding too close to grade, decks or roofs. No clearance means constant wetting.
  • Caulk-only joints that were expected to do a job flashing should do.
  • Moss and algae on shaded sides.

Often a newer house does not need a full re-side. It needs the failed spots found and repaired properly. Dave will tell you which it is. See our guide to signs of dry rot.

Rural properties

Acreage homes bring their own concerns: tall trees shading walls, needle and leaf buildup, long driveways, and weather that comes in off open ground. For wet, shaded walls, James Hardie fiber cement is a strong choice because it does not rot. See Hardie versus cedar and the best siding for Oregon rain.

Hardie products carry the manufacturer’s warranty. We do not install vinyl siding or LP SmartSide, and we do not do gutters, roofing or standalone painting.

Permits in the Damascus area

Because Damascus was disincorporated, check with Clackamas County or the City of Happy Valley, depending on where your address sits. Ask whether your project needs a permit. A small repair often does not. A full re-side might. Our permits guide can help you prepare.

Damascus siding questions

Who do I ask about siding permits in the Damascus area?

Damascus is no longer an incorporated city, and parts of the area were taken in by Happy Valley. So the right office depends on your address: Clackamas County or the City of Happy Valley. Check with them. Repairs often do not need a permit, a full re-side may.

My newer Damascus home already has siding problems. Is that normal?

It happens. On newer homes the cause is usually installation details such as missing flashing, caulk-only joints, or siding too close to grade or roofs, not age. Dave can find the source and fix it correctly.

Is the Hardie warranty still valid if I buy a home with Hardie siding?

Warranty terms are set by the manufacturer, so check James Hardie's current warranty documents. Dave can tell you what to look for on installation details.
